This page is an introduction for beginners wanting to use Mitsurugi as an engine in another deck. Mitsurugi is a powerful engine with multiple negates and plays low to the ground, but has power levels disproportionate to its ease of use. It has very simple combo lines, and because it doesn’t have any restrictions, it can easily synergise with other archetypes.

Combos

The combo lines for Mitsurugi are very simple. There are multiple potential combo lines, but I advocate starting out with this one when using Mitsurugi as an engine (as opposed to playing a pure Mitsurugi deck). This is because most other combos require a higher number of Mitsurugi cards in your deck, in particular, a higher number of bricks.

As a general principle, when starting out, all combo lines go through or start with Habakiri. This first combo is the main combo that you will use. Every other combo is an augmentation or an extension on this basic line.

• Reveal Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi in hand to activate its effect
  • “You can reveal this card in your hand; Special Summon 1 “Mitsurugi” monster from your Deck, then Tribute 1 monster you control. You can only use this effect of “Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi” once per Duel“
  • Special summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji
  • Tribute Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji
• Activate the effect of Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji
  • “If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, or if this card is Tributed: You can add 1 “Mitsurugi” Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand”
  • Add Mitsurugi Ritual to your Hand
• Activate the first effect of Mitsurugi Ritual to ritual summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from your deck by tributing Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from your hand
  • “Ritual Summon 1 Reptile Ritual Monster from your Deck, by Tributing Reptile monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels equal the Level of the Ritual Monster.”
• Activate the tribute effect of Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi
  • “If this card is Tributed: You can add 1 “Mitsurugi” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi”, then you can Special Summon this card.“
  • NOTE: Because Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi has not been properly ritual summoned, it cannot be summoned back off this effect. However, because both parts of the effect say “can”, and because of the conjunction “then”, a card can be added from deck to hand even if the monster cannot be summoned back.
  • Add Mitsurugi Mirror from the deck to the hand.
• Activate Mitsurugi Mirror, tributing Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi to ritual sumon Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from the graveyard
  • “This card can be used to Ritual Summon any Reptile Ritual Monster from your hand or GY. You must also Tribute Reptile monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the Ritual Monster.“
• Activate the tribute effect of Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi
  • “If this card is Tributed: You can add 1 “Mitsurugi” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi”, then you can Special Summon this card.”
  • Add Mitsurugi Great Purification from the deck to your Hand.
  • Special Summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi.
