Deck List

Cards

The Kewl Tune archetype is a Synchro deck uniquely having an all-Tuner monster lineup. Its key mechanic allows you to use Tuners from your hand as Synchro Material while a Kewl Tune monster is on your field, paving the way for rapid, turn-zero Synchro plays during either player’s turn.

Main Deck Monsters

All Main Deck “Kewl Tune” monsters share a passive, non-activated mechanical rule:

If this card on the field would be used as Synchro Material, 1 Tuner in your hand can be used as 1 of the other materials.

      • Card Text: Other Tuners you control cannot be destroyed by card effects, also your opponent cannot target them with card effects. When your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 “Kewl Tune” monster from your GY; apply that banished monster’s effect that activates when it is sent to the GY as Synchro Material. You can only use this effect of “Kewl Tune Loudness War” once per turn.

      • Level: 7
      • Attribute: DARK

      • Materials: 1 Tuner + 1+ Synchro Monsters
      • Card Text: If this card you control would be used as Synchro Material, you can treat it as a non-Tuner. When a card or effect is activated in response to another card or effect activation (Quick Effect): You can activate 1 of these effects;
        • Negate the first effect, and if you do, destroy that card.
        • Negate the second effect, and if you do, destroy that card. You can only use this effect of “Zalen the Shackled Dragon” once per turn.
      • Strategic Note:
        • The “Non-Tuner” Bridge: Because the “Kewl Tune” main archetype consists entirely of Tuners, making Kewl Tune Synchro monsters that require non-Tuner materials (like Kewl Tune B2B) can be incredibly awkward. Zalen provides a bridging solution: as a Level 7 Synchro Tuner, it can choose to treat itself as a non-Tuner for Synchro Summons.
        • Chain-Link Manipulation: Zalen’s negation triggers when a card/effect is activated “in response to” another. In “Kewl Tune”, you can easily manufacture these chains yourself. By chaining a Quick-Play Spell (such as Kewl Tune Synchro) or a generic hand-trap to your opponent’s initial card activation (making your spell Chain Link 2), you can chain Zalen as Chain Link 3. This allows you to choose to negate either your opponent’s initial activation or even protect your own Chain Link 2 if needed.

      • Level: 10
      • Attribute: DARK
      • Type: Fiend / Synchro / Tuner / Effect
      • ATK: 3200
      • DEF: 0
      • Materials: 1 Tuner + 1+ Synchro Monsters
      • Card Text: The Levels of monsters your opponent controls are increased by 2. Your Tuners can make a second attack during each Battle Phase. When your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can target 1 Tuner in your GY or banishment, except a Level 10 Tuner; add it to your hand or Special Summon it, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster. You can only use this effect of “Kewl Tune B2B” twice per turn.

      Spell & Trap Cards

Card Text: You can Normal Summon 1 Tuner during your Main Phase each turn, in addition to your Normal Summon/Set (you can only gain this effect once per turn). Each “Kewl Tune Loudness War” you control gains 3300 ATK while your opponent has a Tuner in their field or GY. You can Tribute 1 Tuner; add to your hand or Special Summon, 1 “Kewl Tune” monster from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Tuners. You can only use this effect of “JJ “Kewl Tune”” once per turn.

Card Text: Add 1 “Kewl Tune” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Kewl Tune Synchro”, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Synchro Summon 1 Tuner Synchro Monster. You cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, except Tuners. You can activate up to 2 “Kewl Tune Synchro” per turn.

Card Text: Target 1 “Kewl Tune” monster in your field or GY; apply these effects in sequence, also for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon, except Tuners.

      • Apply that target’s effect that activates when it is sent to the GY as Synchro Material.
      • Return that target to the hand. You can activate up to 2 “Kewl Tune Playlist” per turn.

      Counters

Kewl Tune is an information-driven, synchro-centric archetype. Their competitive edge comes from hand information and top-deck manipulation to optimise use of interaction.

      1. Core Archetype Mechanics & Choke Points

To beat Kewl Tune, you must first understand how its core engine operates and where it is most vulnerable.

      Hand Materials

Kewl Tune monsters possess a summoning condition allowing them to use monsters in the hand as synchro materials. However, this is only active while they control a face-up Kewl Tune monster on the field. Removing bodies from the field can be beneficial to the game plan, however, Rotary and JJ Kewl Tune provide an additional normal summon.

      The Chain Block

The deck’s standard opening play utilises Kewl Tune Cue and Kewl Tune Rotary to create three-part chain link when synchro summoning into Kewl Tune Track Maker:

      1. Chain Link 1 (Kewl Tune Cue): Arranges the top two cards of the opponent’s deck (with the option to banish one, bottom-deck one, or leave one on top). This is chained first so that it’s effect to manipulate the top deck can be done after hand knowledge is obtained.
      2. Chain Link 2 (Kewl Tune Rotary): Triggers to look at the opponent’s hand and add a Kewl Tune spell.
      3. Chain Link 3 (Kewl Tune Track Maker): Triggers on-summon to search any Kewl Tune card.
      Archetype Extenders

Be prepared for three primary extenders when interrupting their normal summons:

      • Kewl Tune Rotary: Grants an additional normal summon for any tuner. Easily searched by the other Kewl Tune monsters and Kewl Tune Synchro.
      • JJ Kewl Tune (Field Spell): Grants an additional normal summon. Typically run as a one-of.
      • Synchro Overtake: Summons Kewl Tune Reco or Kewl Tune Mix from the deck by revealing a relevant extra deck monster.

      2. Hand Traps

Standard one-for-one negation hand traps perform poorly unless they are paired together because Kewl Tune is highly efficient at playing through isolated interruptions. There is no consensus about the effectiveness of these hand traps. In general, multiple negation hand traps are needed to stop Kewl Tune.

      Hand Trap Overview
      Hand TrapEvaluationMechanics & Tactical Application
Ash Blossom & Joy SpringAverageThe Conflict: One school of thought advocates using Ash immediately on their first starter (Kewl Tune Reco, Kewl Tune Mix, or Synchro Overtake) to choke the engine immediately. Conversely, an opposing perspective suggests holding Ash in case of Spells such as Synchro Overtake or Kewl Tune Synchro
Droll & Lock BirdPoorUseless if they open directly with Kewl Tune Cue or activate Kewl Tune Synchro in the draw phase. However, if they start with Kewl Tune Mix or Kewl Tune Reco, Droll prevents their ability to search Kewl Tune Synchro, though this only slightly weakens their end board. Note that Droll is an awful top-deck during grind games.
Ghost Belle & Haunted MansionGoodBetter than Ash Blossom because it can stop any of the Main Deck monsters summon/search effects because they can do so from the deck or the Graveyard. It is also able to interrupt the effect of of Kewl Tune Remix on your turn to summon and Synchro, which Ash cannot do.
Mulcharmy FuwalosAverageThe consideration with Kewl tune is that you ideally want to negate their effects early in the combo with multiple points of negation. While Fuwalos can allow you to draw into non-engine interaction, it also takes one of those card spaces in your hand. Kewl Tune can also make plays to limit draws under Fuwalos. While it is not a bad card, it doesn’t have the impact that it does against other decks.
Mulcharmy PuruliaPoorThis deck can play with only committing 1 summon from hand. With Synchro Overtake, it can play without commiting a Normal Summon
PSY-Framegear Gamma & DeltaVery GoodHighlighted by many players as premium counters. Gamma negates the initial Kewl Tune monster effects while removing the body. Delta negates all of the spells.
Contact “C”DependantChaining Contact “C” to the summon effect of Kewl Tune Cue forces the opponent into awkward, unoptimised synchro lines (e.g., being forced to field Deep Sea Prima Donna). Kewl Tune players have started modifying their extra decks specifically to combat this card.
Effect VeilerPoor-AverageThe continuous condition allowing them to synchro summon using hand materials cannot be negated by Veiler. Because it is a targeted negation, it can be dodged if Kewl Tune Synchro is chained to it. Its limitation to your opponent’s turn is also a drawback.
Infinite ImpermanenceAverageCan be held for your own turn to hit cards like Kewl Tune RS or Zalen the Shackle Dragon.
Ghost Mourner & Moonlit ChillPoorFails to interact with normal summons, allowing them to establish their loops uncontested. Because Ghost Mourner targets, it can also be dodged with Kewl Tune Synchro.

      3. Board Breaker & Counter-Tech Analysis

      Board BreakerEvaluationApplication & Strategic Nuances
Forbidden DropletGoodForbidden Droplet is very good against Kewl Tune if you can send both a Monster and a Spell to prevent Monster and Kewl Tune Synchro from responding. Very few players include the Kewl Tune Trap, even in their Side Deck.
Super PolymerizationPolarizing / High ImpactFuses any two Kewl Tune monsters into Sea Monster of Theseus (a Level 5 tuner fusion). The Conflict: One school of thought notes that the mere threat of Super Polymerization forces Kewl Tune players to play defensively and pass on minimal fields (such as a lone Kewl Tune Track Maker). However, another perspective points out that advanced players are counter-siding Prohibition to call Sea Monster of Theseus during their first turn. This proactively blanks your Super Polymerization, meaning you must run backrow removal (Lightning Storm or Harpie’s Feather Duster) to guarantee its resolution.
Fydraulis HarmoniaStrongHighly effective removal engine. Allows players to execute a non-targeting pop on newly summoned bodies, followed by banishing supplementary targets to clear out synchro materials before they can resolve.
Evenly MatchedDecent / RiskyZalen the Shackle Dragon cannot negate a Chain Link 1 card directly. Activating Evenly Matched forces them to chain a quickplay spell (Kewl Tune Synchro) first before chaining Zalen to negate, effectively burning two of their disruptions. However, you forfeit your battle phase, and this card performs terribly if they have tutored out Naturia Rose Whip (which limits you to one spell/trap activation per turn).
Lava GolemGood alternativeForces the same defensive, single-monster setups as Super Polymerization. However, it consumes your normal summon and provides absolutely no disruption on the follow-up turn.
Triple Tactics TalonsVery GoodRarely dead, as Kewl Tune frequently triggers monster effects in both the hand and graveyard during your turn. Resolving Talons alongside board breakers often dismantles their entire setup.

      4. Defeating the Information Game

At its core, Kewl Tune is an information-driven deck. Its absolute best counters are high-volume, blind draw spells and hidden cards that deny them this advantage.

If the Kewl Tune player views your hand and spots a board breaker like Super Polymerization, they will actively pivot their end board to play around it. However, if you use cards like Radiant Typhoon Vision, Pot of Desires, Triple Tactics Talons, or Triple Tactics Thrust during your draw phase, you introduce complete uncertainty.

Drawing into your board breakers after their hand-inspection phase completely blindsides them, rendering their preventative setups useless. To maximise your win rate, prioritise blind draw engines and high-impact, non-interactive board breakers over situational, low-impact hand traps.
