Official Rule: The field is a 7×2 grid.

- Monster Zones: 5 Main Monster Zones (MMZ) + 2 Extra Monster Zones (EMZ).
- Spell/Trap Zones: 5 zones in the back row.
- Field Spell Zone: Separate zone for Field Spells.
Modern Strategy (Column Placement): Placement matters.
- Infinite Impermanence: This popular trap negates a monster’s effect and, if set before activation, negates all Spell/Trap effects in its column for the turn. Always play your Spells/Traps in different columns from your opponent’s set backrow.
- Link Arrows: Link Monsters dictate zone usability. Prioritise placing Link Monsters in the Extra Monster Zone (EMZ) with arrows pointing down or diagonal-down. This “unlocks” your Main Monster Zones for further Extra Deck summons. Avoid arrows pointing up. These provide your opponent with usable zones for their own Extra Deck monsters. Advanced positioning enables “Co-Linking,” where two Link Monsters point at each other to grant protection or additional disruption effects.
